About Me
I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon whose NHS practice is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
I graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2006 and completed my orthopaedic training in the West of Scotland. This has been supplemented with further subspecialist training in Sheffield and Edinburgh.
I am a recipient of the prestigious European Foot and Ankle Society travelling fellowship. I have travelled widely allowing me to gain further experience in orthopaedic surgery by visiting internationally recognised centres in Heidelberg, Lyon and Verona.
I continue to innovate and lead the conversation within orthopaedics. This is demonstrated by the fact that I am the Director of Surgical Education at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (RCPSG). I am also a member of Council at RCPSG. In addition, I am a member of the executive committee of the British Limb Reconstruction Society as well as being a member of the trauma committee of the British Orthopaedic Association.
I was appointed as a consultant in 2017. My practice consists entirely of foot, ankle and limb reconstruction surgery. Sub specialisation of this nature allows me to offer the latest techniques which maximise patient comfort and outcome.
I am known for my pragmatic approach and will only operate when there is no other reasonable alternative.
Examples of the type of operations I commonly carry out are:
bunion corrections
forefoot deformity correction
ankle arthroscopy
ankle ligament reconstruction
flat foot and high arch deformity correction
arthroscopic ankle fusion
all varieties of Achilles and other tendon operations as well as all revision cases.
PREcice nail
Mr Jamal regularly performs corrections of lower limb deformity, non union surgery and limb lengthening. He is a keen proponent of ankle distraction arthroplasty for ankle arthritis. He uses a variety of devices to aid optimal outcomes. These include lengthening nails such as the PRECICE nail as well as ilizarov frames.
PUBLICATIONS
Mr Jamal published several peer-reviewed publications. He presents regularly at national and international orthopaedic surgery conferences. In addition to being a member of faculty on numerous orthopaedic courses, Bilal is course director of the flagship Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow annual international trauma and orthopaedic meeting.
“Just back from the Himalayas, it would have been impossible before the operation with Mr Jamal”
